Magazine Front Cover Analysis

The Source magazine front cover analysis

Masthead: The masthead for this magazine is placed in the middle at the top of the cover, it stretched across the whole of the page. It is in a large font as it allows the audience immediately recognise the the name of magazine. It id more recognisable as the strong bright red font contrasts to the dark background colour.

Selling Line: This issue does not have a selling line however one of the main attraction is in the coverline. It is bright red which contrast with the background colour which is a darker use of colour. This will draw the readers attention to this. This is so that the readers can have a further insight into the issue.

Cover line: The cover line “THE GAME suicide is not an option” is placed in the bottom left of the magazine, and written in bold text. It is extremely noticeable as it is placed right next to the gun which is a main tool in the front cover. Also it is placed next to the main image of the rapper 'The Game'.

Main Image: The main image is of rap icon The Game. They used this artist instead of other artists because he is a well recognised musician in the hip hop industry. This helps to get more of an audience. The image used is a powerful one as it portrays the game's feelings and emotions. The use of a mid-shot is used to emphasise on this. Also, The image is placed in the middle and is the largest object on the page. The image is also infront of the masthead which makes it the main focus. This is done as the magazine is a well known one meaning no one really needs to see the name of the magazine. Instead the audience is better of seeing the main image as that will be the main attraction. In addition to this the skin colour of the rapper contrast from the colour of the text, making both the text and main image stand out.
